Baronia brevicornis brevicornis foodplant: Acacia cochliacantha
Rancho Viejo, MOR, MX 26-VI-07

Real host plant: an old tree.  Check for scale with the orange lighter placed on the trunk.
Trees must be older than 30 years to be suitable for caterpillars of Baronia.

Baronia brevicornis brevicornis foodplant: Acacia cochliacantha
Limon, MOR, MX 30-VIII-06

This is a typical branch of A. cochliacantha with large red spines, note that some specimens of this tree may be completely free of spines (or with different shaped spines), which explains why many authors misidentify this species.
