Wheeler viewed from the west 26-VI-08 "This is included in Great Basin National Park, but all access to the park is from the east side, close to the Utah border. Lehman Caves is in the park. The TLs of Euphydryas editha lehmani and Argynnis egleis reidi are in the higher parts of the park. The peak is 13,083 feet (the second highest peak in the state I believe) The highest peak, a few feet higher at 13,143 feet, is Boundary Peak in the White Mts., virtually on the California border." -- John Lane |
| Euphydryas editha lehmani type locality USA: NV: White Pine Co., (Great Basin National Park) Lehman Caves area (visitor center today), 09-VIII-09 "TL of Euphydryas editha lehmani is given as 'Lehman Caves Resort, Mount Wheeler, White Pine County, Nevada'. This is within Great Basin National Park today. The park is located in Nevada by the Utah border. Cave tours are a popular attraction today; tours begin at the Visitor Center by the cave entrance. This was the area of the resort. The visitor center (the visible building) lies near the lower edge of the Pinyon-Juniper Woodland community (Juniperus osteosperma here). Wheeler Peak, also within the park, is not far away." --John Lane |
